YPC's First Tuesday Series at Mama's Kitchen
YPC loves Mama's Kitchen, and we are going to use January’s First *Second* Tuesday to show that love. Food banks often experience a tough post-holiday drop in donations, and Mama’s Kitchen especially needs help collecting protein, so YPC is kicking off 2018 with a protein-food-drive!
We’ll gather at Mama’s Kitchen on January 9 at 6:30pm. (Note, this is technically the *second* Tuesday of January.) There will be time for socializing, and we will also hear a short presentation about Mama’s Kitchen and the work they do in San Diego, and we'll get a tour of the place where millions of meals have been prepared and packed to be delivered to hungry folks in San Diego dealing with critical illnesses.
Most importantly, we will gift all of the protein items we’ve collected. Ask your friends, roommates, neighbors. Grab an extra can of something next time you grocery shop. Put a box out at work and ask your co-workers to fill it. See if there are any cans languishing in the cupboards at the holiday dinners you've been invited to, and then bring it all with you for our Second Tuesday. Think:
Etc., this is not a comprehensive list
If you aren’t familiar with Mama’s Kitchen, they are a beloved “community-driven organization that believes everyone is entitled to the basic necessity of life -- nutritious food. Their nutrition services improve the lives of women, men, and children vulnerable to hunger due to HIV, cancer, or other critical illnesses.” They’ve been serving our community since 1990 and have served over 8 million meals.
Mama’s Kitchen is wheelchair accessible and a sign language interpreter has been hired for this event. It is the explicit intention of the YPC executive committee that all of our events be universally accessible. Please let us know if we you have any questions or requests.
New people are always welcome at every YPC event! If you don’t know anyone in YPC yet, we promise you will within ten minutes of arriving!
Mama's Kitchen is a nonprofit organization that prepares and delivers meals free of charge to residents of San Diego County who are affected by AIDS or cancer. We also operate Mama's Pantry, a food pantry for low-income, HIV positive people who are strong enough to shop for groceries, but who struggle with poverty and cannot shop regularly.
